POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
Position reports to an appropriate administrator at De Anza College and is responsible for checking out tools and equipment used by faculty and students in the Automotive Technology Program.
DUTIES:
Set up and take down equipment for various projects and activities as assigned.
Check hand tools and equipment in and out of tool room.
Sell laboratory supplies (safety glasses, shop rags, and class lab packets) to students during first two weeks of class.
Maintain appropriate equipment inventory and records.
Clean assigned areas as directed.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Knowledge of:
General principles and practices of storing and using materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
Basic record keeping techniques.
Basic cleaning techniques required by a variety of equipment/surfaces.
Proper use of hand and power tools.
Health and safety regulations.
Ability to:
Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Receive, issue, and store equipment used in assigned classes.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Understand and follow oral and written direction.
Maintain routine records.
Perform accurate arithmetic calculations.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment:
Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Physical Abilities:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and set up various pieces of equipment.
Sight to set up and take down equipment.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Lifting moderately heavy objects.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Bending at the waist, kneeling and crouching.
Hazards:
Contact with cleaning chemicals.
Exposure to hazardous materials in the work area that include gasoline, antifreeze, oil and similar products used in the automotive industry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Any combination equivalent to basic understanding of types of automotive tools and equipment and how they operate AND two (2) years related work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one college level course in automotive principles, which included a laboratory passed with a grade C or better.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position: Part-Time, Permanent, 11-months per year
Starting date: As soon as possible upon completion of the search process.
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:30PM - 10:15PM, not to except 19 hours per week.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
